September 2017 - New Large aerostat Helikite winch for Switzerland

This new Skylaunch V8 LPG powered heavy duty Helikite winch was delivered to the Institute for Atmosphere and Climate at the ETH University in Zurich, Switzerland (the University attended by Albert Einstein)
August 2017 - UAV / Drone mounted Winch project

A new design for a small winch was commissioned, designed and built by Skylaunch for UNICEF.
This winch will be used on UAV / Drone aircraft for making much needed Vaccination drops on the Vanuatu Islands in the South Pacific.

 
July 2017 - New order for a Skylaunch Evolution Winch to Japan

Meiji University Gliding Club in Japan have now placed an order for a new Skylaunch Evolution glider winch, with a folding roof to fit into their hanger.

This winch will be fitted with Skyrope launch cables.


July 2017 - New order for a Skylaunch Helikites Winch

Allsopp Helikites have ordered a new design Skylaunch Special Project winch with a V8 engine and large capacity cable drum, for Zurich University in Switerland.


July 2017 - Design upgrade for Skylaunch Aerochutes

Following a design review, Skylaunch now supply all our popular Aerochute parachutes with a compact metal eyelet connection for ease of use and durability.

The Aerochutes, as with all our Parachutes, are available in lightweight, hard wearing Poly woved white "Hessian" material as well as Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange PVC.

June 2017 - New Evo winch for California, USA

A new Evo twin drum winch (8.2 liter V8 LPG engine) using Dyneema launch cables. It was commissioned for Ron Greg from the Southern California Soaring Academy at our local Staffordshire club in England, before shipping to the USA. Pilot and winch driver training in California are planned for later this year.

 
May 2017 - New Large aerostat Helikite winch for Germany

This new V8 powered heavy duty Helikite winch was commissioned in the UK before delivery to the Max Planck Institute in Germany














 


 
April 2017 - – Skylaunch exhibits at Aero 2017

Many thanks to everyone who came to visit us at our stand this year at Aero 2017. We exhibited 1 new and 1 re-engineered winch at the busy Aero Show in Friedrichshafen.

April 2017 - UNO single drum winch

New UNO, single drum design winch using many of the EVO's proven components at a more affordable price. For clubs with a tight budget but still has around 80% of the launch rate of a twin drum model and gives the fastest possible launch rate when used with a retrieve winch.

March 2017 - New upgrades available for Mel / Van Gelder winches

In addition to the extensive range of upgrades, parts, spares, repairs an re-engineering we offer for all non Skylaunch winches, we now offer an upgrade to fit Skylaunch pulley / roller units to Mel / Van Gelder winches.

These proven design pulley / roller units are suitable for use with Dyneema or steel launch cables and can help extend the life of the cables.

February 2017 - Our stand is booked for Aero 2017

January 2017 - Cambridge Gliding Club - Re-engineered Winch delivered

A Tost winch, fully re-engineered by Skylaunch was delivered to Cambridge Gliding Club. This winch is fitted with a 7.4L GM V8 fuelled by LPG, and is using 5mm Dyneema launch cables.

December 2016 – Helikites Winch – New Special order

Allsopp Helikites have ordered a new design Skylaunch Special Project winch with a V8 engine and extra large capacity cable drum, for operation in Germany.
 

November 2016 - Cambridge Gliding Club - Winch build

A Tost winch, fully re-engineered by Skylaunch is currently being built for Cambridge Gliding Club. This winch is fitted with a big block GM V8 engine fuelled by LPG.

 
October 2016 - Winch truck restoration

A 1954 REO 6x6 truck is restored at Skylaunch. An old Tost winch was mounted on the rear of this truck until it was scrapped, leaving the truck with very low mileage. As it was too good to scrap, it has been lovingly restored and converted to run on LPG.

August 2016 - Aviation Club of Waseda University, Japan - Winch training

Four people from Waseda University visited Lasham Gliding Society (England) for training with their new Skylaunch Evolution winch before it is shipped to Japan.

 
July 2016 - Helikites winch - New order

Allsopp Helikites have ordered a new Skylaunch winch for modernising the communications systems and upgrading to digital in the far East, due for delivery at the end of August.
June 2016 - Upgrades to Buckminster's winch

Buckminster Gliding Club's (Saltby Airfield) Skylaunch winch (1999) has been fitted with various upgrades, including automatic tow-out brakes, repairs and new paintwork. This winch is using Skyrope cables.
May 2016 - Aviation Club of Waseda University, Japan - New winch order

Waseda University have ordered a new Skylaunch Evolution twin drum winch (8.2L V8 Petrol EFI) for delivery in August. Representatives from the club will travel to the UK in mid August to undergo training on their new winch before it is shipped to Japan. This winch will be fitted with 1400m long Dyneema cables.
May 2016 - Wellington Gliding Club, New Zealand - Winch delivery and training

The new Skylaunch Evolution twin drum winch (8.2L V8 Petrol EFI) has now arrived at Wellington Gliding Club, New Zealand. Mike Groves and Simon Adlard flew out to give winch and glider pilot training, and would like to thank everyone at Wellington Gliding Club for their kind hospitality. This winch is fitted with 2500m long Dyneema cables.

 
April 2016 - Ballenstedt, Germany - Winch delivery

A Tost winch, fully re-engineered by Skylaunch was delivered to Ballenstedter Aeroclub e.V. Germany. This winch is fitted with a new V8 engine fuelled by LPG, extra wide low ground pressure wheels, and is using Dyneema launch cables.

 
March 2016 - Wellington Gliding Club, New Zealand - Winch shipping

A new Skylaunch Evolution twin drum winch (8.2L V8 Petrol EFI) was packed into a container and is now on its way to New Zealand.  Skylaunch will be flying out for winch and glider pilot training once it arrives.  This winch is fitted with Dyneema cables.

 
March 2016 - Bath, Wiltshire and North Dorset Gliding Club, England - Winch delivery

A new Skylaunch Evolution twin drum winch (8.2L V8 LPG) was delivered to BWND GC at 'The Park'.  This winch is fitted with Skyrope launch cables.

 
February 2016 - Upgrades to RAF GSA Winch

The original winch from RAF Bicester has been in operation for 17 years and over 150,000 launches. Now it has returned from filming on the latest Bond movie, it has been upgraded including automatic tow-out brakes, pulley roller boxes and a paintwork respray. This winch is using Dyneema cables.

 
February 2016 - Skylaunch exhibits at SSA Convention, USA

January 2016 - Italian Air Force, Winch delivery

A new Skylaunch Evolution twin drum winch (6.6L V8 turbo diesel) was delivered to the air base at Guidonia near Rome and their personnel were trained in operation and maintenance. This winch is fitted with Dyneema cables.

 
December 2015 - Upgrades to Cotswolds winch

Cotswolds Gliding Club's (Aston Down) first Skylaunch winch 'A' (1999) is upgraded with automatic tow-out brakes and repairs including a paintwork respray. This winch is using steel cables.

 
November 2015 - Italian Air Force - New Winch

A new Skylaunch EVO twin drum winch (6.6 litre V8 turbo diesel) passed its acceptance trials at Staffordshire Gliding Club by a team of inspectors from Italy.  This winch is fitted with Dyneema cables.

A big thank you to all the members of the Staffordshire Gliding Club for their great assistance with the Italian Air Force trials on their site at Seighford, and with many other winches we have tested there especially during this busy year.

 



October 2015 - 007 'Spectre' special effects

Now the new James Bond film has been released, we can reveal a Skylaunch glider winch (on loan from RAFGSA) was used to help create the aircraft snow scenes in Austria, and the helicopter crash in the final scene (Westminster Bridge, London) of the film.

 
 
October 2015 - Aerostat winch for the Middle East

Skylaunch have now finished manufacturing a new high torque Aerostat winch, supplied to the Saudi Military through our partner company Allsopp Helikites Ltd.

This winch has an extra high capacity drum, fitted with an 800m special optic fibre cable system.

 

September 2015 - British Air Cadets Order - Final Winch Delivery

The last of 25 Skylaunch Evo twin drum (6.6 litre turbo diesel engine) delivered to RAF Syerston (Air Cadets Central Gliding School).
This completes the order placed by the British Air Cadets to replace their ageing Van Gelder winch fleet.

August 2015 – Skylaunch Sponsors the British Junior Nationals

Skylaunch recently sponsored the Junior Championships at Cotswolds Gliding Club (Aston Down). We have agreed to support this fantastic competition in 2016 & 2017 also. Our sponsorship contributed towards 1 free competition aerotow for each competitor. It was great to see the 2015 competition up to full strength, with nearly 50 entries and a full two seater course. Despite mixed weather, a great week was had. See you next year!

A Skylaunch winch (on loan from the RAF GSA) was towed to Terlet in The Netherlands by Pete "The Winch" Salisbury and he volunteered to stay and launch for the whole event - many thanks Pete.

A 1955 Wiz WInch re-engineered by Skylaunch was collected by a Gliding Club from Cuence, Spain (www.xair-in.info).  This is a new organisation and are promoting glider winch launching in Spain.

This winching project requires the cable to be towed over a lake as the winch is on one side, the subject is on the other shore.                             

 
November 2014 - Delivery of a new winch to LSV Bonn Rhein-Sieg e.V.

A new Skylaunch 2 Evo twin drum winch (8.2 litre fuelled by LPG) is delivered to Bonn Rhein-Sieg e.V. This winch is using Dyneema cables.

On the weekend of delivery this new winch was giving up to double the launch heights of their old Tost winch.
                  

 

October 2014 - British Air Cadets Order - 1st Winch Delivery

A new Skylaunch Evo twin drum (6.6 litre turbo diesel engine) is delivered to RAF Syerston (Air Cadets Central Gliding School). This winch is using Dyneema cables.

This is the first of the 25 winches to be delivered to the Air Cadets over the following months.

 

September 2014 - Film Special Effects Trial

The legendary, professional winch driver 'Pete the Winch' is again working on a special winching project.

This time he is winching an aeroplane for a special effects scene to be included in a block buster movie.

The title of the movie is classified at this time, but if the trials go well the real filming will take place in location at a secret overseas destination next year.
August 2014 - New Order from LSV Bonn Rhein-Sieg e.V.

A new Skylaunch Evo "Premium Model" twin drum glider winch (8.2 litre fuelled by LPG) is ordered by the 
LSV Bonn Rhein-Sieg e.V. in Germany. It will be fitted with Dyneema cables.

This order was secured by Tobias Ernst - Our Skylaunch German agent.
July 2014 - British Air Cadets Order

Skylaunch have now been given permission to announce an order for 25 new Skylaunch Evolution glider winches from the British Air Cadets.

These winches will be fitted with new General Motors 6.6 litre turbo diesel engines and will comply with the latest emissions regulations.

This order has meant a year of planning with Sub-contractors to ensure that our new and exisiting customers can continue to receive our products, service and support during the build.

The photograph shows the chassis, cab and trailer assembly of the first of the 25 winches being collected from our sub-contractor.

 
June 2014 - Equipment update designs

This month Skylaunch have been updating some of their equipment designs to help ensure we are prividing the best and latest equipment.

Skylaunch now offer their range of Aerodynamic and Heavy Duty parachutes manufactured in a new type of light weight, hard wearing woven poly material which we are referring to as 'Hessian'.

The 'Hessian' parachutes have been introduced to be lighter for use with synthetic cables and also much longer lasting on abrasive airfield surfaces, and are available for the same price as the original vinyl (see http://skylaunch.com/ProdParachutes.php )

These new 'Hessian' parachutes are proving to be very popular and we believe will probably replace vinyl parachutes completely, but for now we are offering all material types.

Skylaunch have also developed a new design aluminium cable pulley assembly in cooperation with the British RAF GSA which can directly replace the top pulley in the pulley / roller heads for clubs using synthetic cable

May 2014 - Upgrades for RAF GSA Winch

Another of the fleet of RAF GSA original winches, this one from RAF Cranwell, has a painwork  respray and upgrades to the later specifications, including engine transfer to the larger 8.2 Litre version. This winch is using Steel launch cables.

 
April 2014 - Skylaunch exhibit at Aero 2014

Skylaunch will again be attending Aero 2014 in Friedrichshafen (Germany) on the 9th - 12th April. Please come and visit us in Hall B3 stand 413.
 

March 2014 - Service and upgrades for South Wales Gliding Club

An early model twin drum winch is returned to Skylaunch from Usk (south Wales Gliding Club) for a service and upgrades to the later specifications.  All the major components (engine, transmission, final drive etc) are all still in very good condition. This winch is using steel cable.
 

February 2014 - Delivery of a new winch to Cambridge

A new Skylaunch 2 Evo twin drum winch (8.2 litre fuelled by LPG) is delivered to Cambridge Gliding Club. This winch is using Dyneema cables.  


February 2014 - A new trial in the North

A special Ministry of Defence 675hp high speed winch that we built a few years ago for use on a test track, was modified and commissioned for a month long trial, pulling target boats in the sea, at a range in the North of England. Unfortunately further details are classified. 



January 2014 - Upgrades for RAF GSA winch
